The foreigner's identity card, better known as TIE, is a unique identity document that accredits your legal residence in Spain when you are from a country that does not belong to the European Union. This card has personal data such as your photograph, name, address and foreigner's identity number (NIE), as well as the type of authorization of stay or residence in Spain; in this case student.

Who can apply for it?

- Those with nationalities that are not a member state of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland and wish to reside in Spain for a period of more than six months.

All foreign citizens who have obtained a long-term residence permit.

How should I do the procedure?

It is done in person at the police station where you have obtained your appointment.

And how do I get the appointment to obtain my TIE? You will have to request it in the electronic headquarters of the Government and follow the following steps:

- Choose in "AVAILABLE PROVINCES" the one where you are going to terminate your TIE.
- In the field "PROCEDURES NATIONAL POLICE", choose the option "POLICE - FINGERPRINTING (CARD ISSUANCE) AND LONG-TERM CARD RENEWAL".
- Carefully read each section of the information provided and click "OK". Β 
- Fill in your personal information
- Select the office where to request the appointment. Fill in the additional information requested.
- Request your appointment according to the dates and locations available.
- You can receive a confirmation of the appointment in your e-mail.
