New changes in the Immigration Law that you should be aware of

- Tiempo de lectura: 5 min

Whether you are just coming to study or work in Spain or you came last year for other reasons and you are a foreigner, it is important that you know about these changes as many of them will benefit you when your residence permit is about to conclude. ‍

These changes are presented in 4 main aspects:

‍

‍

‍

‍1. Students

All foreign students in authorized centers may work up to 30 hours per week while pursuing their studies. Likewise, they will have the right to remain one more year as residents without having to request an extension of stay in Spain.

‍

‍

‍

‍2. Arraigo for training

If you have been in Spain for at least 2 years, you will be able to obtain a 12-month residence permit as long as you undergo regulated training for employment.

The idea is to be able to have access to the labor market by first undergoing training in sectors where the need for labor is determined.

‍

‍

‍

3. Recruitment at origin

It is proposed to improve the catalog of occupations that are difficult to cover; the list of professions that are difficult to find personnel in Spain; an example are those coming from agricultural campaigns. These professionals will be able to access a 4-year authorization in which they will be able to work for up to 9 months per year, with the obligation to return to their countries after each period.

‍

‍

‍

‍4. Family reunification

It will now be possible for family members of foreigners, upon receiving a residence permit, to also receive work authorization for self-employment and employment. Previously, it was customary to first receive residence and then apply for a work authorization. ‍‍
