The authorities of the European Union allow foreigners with relatives within a European country to register with the administration of their relatives in order to obtain a residence card. This procedure can be carried out after the applicant has spent three months in the European country, any application made before that time will be rejected. Subsequently, in order for the residence card to be issued, it will be necessary to submit the following documents: ‍‍

- Valid passport.

- Certificate of registration of the person residing in the European Union.

- Proof that there is a family relationship with you. There are different requirements for the type of family member applying for the residence card:  

- Children and grandchildren: proof that they are dependent on the European resident or that they are under 21 years of age.

- Parents and grandparents: proof that they are financially or morally dependent on you.

- Other family members: proof that they are dependent on the resident or if there are serious medical reasons for which the resident must take care of them.

- Domestic partners: proof of a stable and long-term romantic relationship with the resident. ‍

The authorities will deliver the resolution of the application within a maximum period of six months. In case the applicant's visa expires during the application process, such person cannot be expelled from the European Union. In case the decision of the authorities is positive, the processing of the residence card will be completely free of charge and is valid for five years. ‍
